Role of an Examiner

When a patent application is filed in a Patent Office, it is reviewed by a Patent Examiner having expertise in the field of the invention. The Role of the Patent Examiner has many facets. Firstly, the Examiner will ascertain that the invention is useful, and new across the world. Secondly, the Examiner will ascertain that you have provided a contribution from your own imagination, and not something that could have been inspired to you by one or more previous inventions. Finally, the Examiner will not allow you a claim that overlap the exclusive right granted to a previous inventor.
